September 10 CPM has completed the Samui Centre of Learning school in LamaiOur contract was to bring the school grounds up to an acceptable standard in time for opening of the primary school on the 9th September. It took us two months from start to finish. First the hillside was turned into a gravelled car park, with a grass playing field set below, all with extensive drainage to cope with the torrential rains of the rainy season. The driveway was levelled, gravelled and heavily compacted, with kerbs down both sides, a grass & floral verge and a small guard-shelter built at the top. Two re-inforced concrete playgrounds were next built; the toddlers's playground with an added rubberised surface incorporating a brightly coloured design from specialists 'Playmode' based in Bangkok; the larger playground was covered with coloured cement quadrants of the four primary colours. The rear pool yard , side reading area and area in front of the offices had over 12 thousand red and green concrete zig-zag blocks laid down to finish the external surfaces of the school, the balance being laid with fine golf-course grade japanese grass. Finally, all the boundary & main playground walls and kerbs were painted a brilliant white. We would also like to add our special thanks to Kh. Toi Chaiyo of Autogate and M. Robert Ansermoz of TipTop Garden for helping us to achieve our deadlines with such a perfect finish and finally we would like to thank Emma and Ros for giving us such an enjoyable and worthwhile task.
